Back Pain Relief –
A Real Possibility

Sufferers of chronic back pain seeking back pain relief often feel their pain will be with them for the rest of the life. The possibility of no relief can be a very depressing prospect. Fortunately, there are methods that will ease your pain without the use of invasive procedures and medicines.

Back Pain

Therapies for relief are closely related to those for neck pain relief and the two are often interrelated. Many back pain sufferers also suffer from neck pain. If your pain extends to the neck you will find that natural treatments for back pain relief will also help with your neck pain.

Exercise is the major focus of natural back pain relief. The goal is to not only ease the discomfort but to keep the pain from reoccurring with stretches and tissue building exercises. Building strength in the area where you are experiencing pain will help prevent further injury and pain.

Flat on Your Back

The torso is comprised of a serious of muscles, tendons, joints, and ligaments, any one of which can suffer injury and cause discomfort. When the injury first occurs, or the pain starts, you will want to rest the back area.

To immobilize the back you should lie flat on you back on a hard surface. Place two pillows under your knees to raise them and relieve pressure to your back. If you are able you can rest your calves and feet on a chair seat, raising your legs higher. This position will offer short term relief.

Sitting Pretty

Poor posture will only make your back problems worse. Sitting properly can give you relief. Sit straight in the chair with the small of your back touching the back of the chair. Place both feet in front of you on the floor. A lumbar support pillow can be placed behind your back to give extra support. Sitting in the proper position will also assist the neck.

Lift and Stretch

Using proper lifting techniques will help prevent further injury. With your back straight you want to bend from the knee, not the waist, to pick up the object. Using you leg muscles you can slowly raise your body.

Along with proper posture and lifting, stretching exercises will reduce your back problems. You will see excellent results if you make a concerted effort to stretch every morning and every night.
