It’s All Up to You –
Chronic Severe Pain Management

Chronic pain does not have to be diagnosed before chronic severe pain management can begin. A patient may have to suffer through years of X-Rays, hospital visits, and giant doses of humiliation before a diagnosis is ever given. In many cases you can bypass this difficult process and manage to alleviate some of your pain.

Pain Pills

Throughout the diagnosis process you may be told repeatedly that you are imagining your pain and that you should just get on with your life. Some doctors will choose to mask the pain with strong pain killers and not even try to find a diagnosis. Where does this leave you, the patient?

If you let it, these events can empower you to determine your own chronic pain management plan. No one knows your pain the way that you do and when you take responsibility for it you can come up with ideas to help manage your pain.

Know What It Does

Chronic pain affects the nervous system and sends pain messages to the brain. This can be the result of an injury, the result of degeneration, or the result of stress. Chronic severe pain management will need to address the cause of the pain before it can address pain relief.

Chronic pain resulting from an injury can be eased by heat and cold. A combination of the two, switching from hot to cold every five minutes, can alleviate much of the pain. Heat and cold can also help with swelling or inflammation resulting from degeneration of tissue.

R & R

You will be amazed at how much help rest and relaxation can be to chronic severe pain management. Advanced pain management also makes use of rest and recognizes its healing benefits. You will find that using relaxation methods will not only lessen your stress, they will improve your pain.

One especially successful relaxation technique is called “the cat”. Laying flat on your back on a hard surface you will close your eyes. Beginning with your feet and moving toward your head isolate each part of your body, tense it, and release. You will tense only one body part at a time as you slowly work up your body. This relaxation method offers significant stress and pain relief.

An Apple A Day

Your chronic severe pain management plan, and any advanced pain management, should include a great diet and plenty of water. The right types of food, with plenty of nutrients, will help heal your body and boost your immune system. Water will keep your body well hydrated which will ease swollen tissues.

Apples, green leafy vegetables, and lots of fruit will give you body a huge boost. A healthy diet with rest, relaxation, and an awareness of the causes of your pain, will lead to an effective pain management plan.
